“Dark and chilling.” —The Abington Sun

A staged reading of Suzan-Lori Parks’s Black feminist theatrical riff on Nathaniel Hawthorne’s Scarlet Letter. A haunting play about the intractability of power in the US—including the medical industrial complex, the church, and the welfare state—and their impact on Black women’s lives.

Created by students in the Black Feminist Performance Workshop. Performed in the Abington Art Gallery, Penn State Abington.

This project was made possible by the Sally Leah Reinitz Endowment for the Cultural Arts, the Dr. Moylan C. and Barbara D. Mills Endowment for Cultural Arts, the Division of Arts and Humanities, the Academic Environment Committee, and the Office of the Chancellor.
